Learn about the country or countries where you want to work, such as the job market, visa requirements and conditions, employment rights, and the cost of living. Assess where your skills and background will be most valued by potential employers.  

Use Interstride to research different countries:  

  1. Log into Interstride with your Mason email address and NetID.
  2. Select the "Jobs" tab.
  3. Select the "Country Insights" tab.
  4. Search for and select a specific country in the list to access resources.

Adapt your resume to the standards for the country of your potential employment.

  • Communicate your interest in working abroad with any of your personal, academic, and professional contacts, particularly those who have worked or lived abroad or who have connections to people in different countries.
  • Use LinkedIn and other social media platforms to make career connections with Mason alumni and professionals in your field working abroad.
  • Broaden your contacts further by joining a professional association for your field and target country, and check out embassy-related networking events.
