On-Campus Interview Program

Spring 2021: February 22 – April 23

The Virtual/On-Campus Interview Program is an opportunity for students to interview for jobs and internships with regional employers on Mason’s Fairfax Campus. Employers target and travel to Mason talent, making interviews convenient and exclusive to our students. All Mason degree-seeking undergraduate, graduate students, and alumni are eligible to apply for opportunities in the Virtual/On-Campus Interviewing Program. Screening criteria, including major, GPA, and work authorization for each position is set by the employer

No Show and Late Cancellation Policy

You must provide a minimum of 48 hours’ notice of your intention to cancel your On-Campus Interview. Failure to show for the interview may result in the consequence of your Handshake account being temporarily blocked. To cancel an interview, contact the employers and/or Christie Michals, Employer Relations Coordinator.

No Show and Late Cancellation Policy Details

First Offense: Temporarily Blocked
If you fail to keep a scheduled interview with an employer or fail to cancel 48 business hours in advance, you will be blocked from the On-Campus Interviewing Program AND from all Handshake usage until you follow these steps:

Your Handshake account will then be reactivated, and you may continue to use the system and participate in the On-Campus Interviewing Program.

Second Offense: Permanently Blocked
If you fail to keep a scheduled interview with an employer a second time, you will be blocked from Handshake and dismissed from the On-Campus Interview Program permanently.

This includes removal of your resume from consideration for any pending interviews and removal of your name from any already scheduled interviews.

You may petition to regain access to Handshake by speaking to your Industry Advisor, however you will not be permitted to participate in the On-Campus Interviewing Program.

Why so strict?
Strong relationships between Mason and local employers are built upon successful recruiting efforts. When a student cancels an on-campus interview in an untimely manner or fails to show up entirely, this damages our relationship with employers. Damaged relationships can lead to a loss of resources and access to future opportunities for Mason students.

Additionally, University Career Services is committed to helping students develop the career readiness skills valued by employers such as Professionalism/Work Ethic and failing to cancel or not showing up for an event can reflect negatively on future employers’ perceptions of you in the workplace.

Offer Renege Policy

To renege is to go back on a promise, undertaking, or contract. In this context it means that you verbally or contractually committed to a job offer and then withdrew on that promise. Reneging on an offer with an employer will result in your being blocked from Handshake and the On-Campus Interviewing Program.

Offer Renege Policy Details

You will remain permanently blocked from the On-Campus Interviewing Program, however you may petition to regain access to Handshake. To petition, set up a meeting with your Industry Advisor within 30 days of having reneged on an offer. If we do not hear from you within 30 days, your Handshake account will be permanently blocked

Should a second reneging offense occur after reinstatement, you will be permanently blocked from Handshake without opportunity for petition.
