A personal pitch is a brief introduction about yourself that answers important questions in 30 seconds. Develop your pitch and view examples (PDF).

Meet employers on campus

As a Mason student you have access to employers through career panels, Career Fairs, and Resume Clinics. Connect with employers at these events and follow up with them.

Create a LinkedIn account

LinkedIn is the world's largest professional network with hundreds of millions of members.  Learn tips on developing your profile and networking through LinkedIn.  If you have questions about how to use LinkedIn or if you would like someone to review your profile, make an appointment with your Industry Advisor.

Join a professional association

A professional association is typically a non-profit organization that seeks to further a particular profession, the interests of individuals engaged in that profession, and the public interest. Join a professional association to gain access to hiring managers and experts in your industry of interest. View the Associations Unlimited database for a full list of professional associations.

 

Informational interviewing

Use informational interviews to build relationships with professionals and learn more about your career field.

Ask the people you meet through networking to sit down for a 20 minute interview where you get to ask them questions about their career, industry, and organization. Use this time to gather career and industry advice not to ask for a job. Send a thank you as a follow up and keep in touch.
